Scanning and OCR - Easy and Convenient

With C-Pen 3.5 you can scan and OCR (character recognition) printed text into your computer. A brief sweep with your C-Pen and the text instantly appears in any open application on your computer. Easy to use with e.g. translation software, text-to-speech applications, internet banking, etc. These applications are NOT included in this package but check here for available solutions.

Wireless and Mobile

Independent of location; in office, at home, at the library, or travelling, the wireless design ensures maximum flexibility of use. A Bluetooth transceiver is included in the package.

Ergonomic Design

C-Pen 3.5 with its ergonomic design fits perfectly in your hand and is designed for both left and right-hand use without any change of settings.

C-Pen Core Software

C-Pen 3.5 is shipped with C-Pen Core Software for Windows. C-Pen Core is designed to seamlessly fit with multiple applications. C-Pen Core is hence the main software and includes the Optical Character Recognition that turns the scanned printed text into computer editable text. It also features the text-to-cursor function that automatically insert the scanned text into the application of your choice, wherever the text cursor is positioned.
If you want to scan text into your own favourite software, just start that application (e.g. Word, Notepad, Excel, etc.), place the cursor where you want the text to appear, and scan with the C-Pen.
The C-Pen Core Software allows you to define multiple scan and OCR settings and save these as Scan Profiles. If you like to change from scanning text in English to scanning numbers only - you simply select appropriate Scan Profile.

C-Pad"

C-Pad" is a control pad for the C-Pen Core software. With C-Pad you can easily enter special characters and commands without releasing C-Pen from your hand. The C-Pad is provided as a pdf and is easily printed on a regular printer. More details.

How to Read with Your C-Pen 3.5

1.Open a new or existing document (in any piece of text editable software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Notepad, etc) that you want to insert the scanned text into.

2. In this document, place the cursor at the position where the scanned text is to be inserted.

3.On the book/paper that is to be scanned, place the tip of C-Pen 3.5 before the first character you want to read. The two supporting legs should be positioned so that the centre of the text line is in the centre of the opening. The leg with the trigger should be below the text line and the other leg above the text line. The C-Pen will start to read the text when the automatic trigger is pressed onto the surface and will continue to read until the automatic trigger is released.

4.Move C-Pen over the line of text. You can move C-Pen either left-to- right or right-to-left over the text.

5.Lift C-Pen after the last character you want to read. C-Pen stops reading when the automatic trigger is released and the text will come up almost immediately in the document on your PC.

6.Continue in the same way for the next line.

With the C-Pen MAC (Beta) software you can use your C-Pen 20, C-Pen 3.0, C-Pen 3.5 or Ectaco/C-Pen on your MAC computer to scan printed text, do OCR, and get the text inserted at the position of your cursor in about any text enabled application.

NB. The text is fully editable, e.g. you can change font type and size in MS Word to customise the text. Note that there is a small automatic trigger button at the tip of the C-Pen. This button activates the scanning when the C-Pen is pressed against the paper. It is important that it is pressed in during the complete scan. The automatic trigger is shown in the picture to the left.
